Day 11 - Garage Sale! (Julie And Amanda Head To Spain)….Maybe

Lori and Christine made an early exit on Wednesday morning- after about zero hours of sleep. Their trips were long but returned them both home safely. We are all sad to be parted but are so thankful to have had all our time together.

Julie and I closed up the VRBO and trucked over to the taxi stand to head to the airport. The strange Italian method of not being allowed to hail Taxis is odd and was not working! We kept waiting and although we had allowed a bunch of time it felt like we were not going to be on time. A taxi finally appeared and we headed over. The airport was fine and we checked in to await boarding. They kept delaying posting our gate number- should have realized this was a sign- until they just cancelled our flight completely. 🤦‍♀️

We retrieved our luggage and headed upstairs to figure out next steps. When they announced the cancellation, we met Cheryl in the line up. She and her husband Joe are from Atlanta. We were considering renting a car and driving to Barcelona! As we waited to hear our airline fate Cheryl had found us a new flight out of Bologna to Barcelona at 10:55pm. We booked it! We didn’t want to risk the flight out of Florence that the airline offered.

We were off on a new adventure. After leaving the airport we taxied to the train station for our ride to Bologna. The train was super quick- Cheryl and Joe almost missed disembarking!

In Bologna we taxied to the airport. We had a long wait and settled in to enjoy dinner with Cheryl and Joe.

 

At 11pm we were set to take off. The loud crying and screaming child was directly behind Julie- our luck continued! The child screamed for about 1.5 h and was quiet for maybe 15 min! We landed and found the taxi queue to get us to our hotel. We checked in- had to change rooms 🤦‍♀️, then got ready for bed. It was 2am! Wow. It was a crazy day but we were finally in Spain. We managed about six hours sleep to prep for tomorrow. A crazy time but we made more new friends from it!
